How to Wash a Mask

Masks can be washed by hand or in a machine
Usual laundry detergent will do the trick
For extra layer of disinfection, chlorine or color-safe bleach can be used
In case of sensitive skin, rinse the mask under the tap to wash off residual detergent
To help treat contaminated fabric, use detergent and hot water at 60 degrees Celsius
After washing your mask, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands, too

How to Wear a Mask Properly

An ideal fabric mask should —

Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
Be secured with ties or ear loops
Be easy to breathe through without any restrictions
Can be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape

Some best practices —

Make sure to wash the mask before first use
Wash your hands frequently, especially if you’ve been in public spaces or coughed or sneezed into them
Use soap and water, scrubbing thoroughly for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer
Be careful not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth when removing the face covering
